Netflix reveals cast for live-action ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’

It was three years ago when Netflix announced that it was creating another live-action take for ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’. Today, the streaming giant officially announced the cast for its upcoming series – and the resemblances are pretty solid.

To be fair, the bar wasn’t really that high to begin with, given M. Night Shyamalan’s atrocious film adaptation of the beloved series. But based on their casting, Netflix has at least taken an effort not to whitewash the characters, so there’s that.

Leading the cast is 11-year-old Filipino-Canadian actor Gordon Cormier, who will portray Aang. Cormier’s age is actually close to that of Aang, who was 12-years-old in the beginning of the series.

Rounding up the crew are Kiawentiio Tarbell (Katara), Ian Ousley (Sokka), and Dallas Liu (Prince Zuko).

This new remake previously raised eyebrows when the original creators of the animated series left the show due to ‘creative differences’. For his part, showrunner Albert Kim says that while the story will not shift to accommodate current trends, surprises are in store for fans both old and new.
