Ayn Bernos wins for repping the underrepresented Filipina
From being a TikTok sensation, entrepreneur, and podcast host, Roussane Marie “Ayn” Bernos recently added ‘beauty queen’ to the list of the many things that she pursued. The Miss Universe Philippines candidate only made it to the top 16 finalists, but her presence in the pageant was already a winning move for many fellow Filipinas.
When the MUP organization scrapped their initial height requirement, the San Juan City bet who proudly stands 5-foot-3 immediately turned in her application. She has expressed how she always wanted to compete in a beauty pageant ever since she was younger and calls her latest feat a “dream come true.”
Even before she got the chance to walk on the big stage, Ayn has been committed to different advocacies. She personally raises awareness on colorism and her brand Morena The Label shows how she embraces her morena skin tone. Aside from that, she also champions women empowerment and education. Her social media content is informative and has a way of boosting the confidence of her female audience.

Throughout the years, contestants were usually tall, slim, and sometimes mixed with foreign features. While that has seemingly been the norm for beauty pageants, Ayn’s entry served as a figure for underrepresented Filipinas. A lot of people were rooting for her to grab the crown or reach at least the Q&A round. But even if Ayn didn’t, posts from users online started pouring on how thankful they are for her participation and redefining what beauty is.
Ayn mirrored the support given to her on Instagram and showed her appreciation as well. She said, ‘My favorite messages are those that say, “You represent me” and honestly those have powered me through the worst of self-doubts!!!! You guys have no idea.’
The 27-year-old also shared that every time she comes close to criticizing her body, face, or features, there’s a tiny voice that tells her, “If you say that about yourself, then you’re saying that about everyone who feels represented by you.”
‘So when my thighs jiggle, or when I smile with full cheeks, or when I stand tall and it’s never quite tall enough…’ she added. ‘I remind myself that those do not take away from who I am, but instead add to the weight of my purpose.’
Thank you redefining the word “beauty.” Thank you for making every Filipina proud of their skin and color.

I’m so touched by the messages telling me how well I’d perform if I had the chance to do the Q&A. But I’m not sad because MUP has gifted me such a BIG platform tell my story. Now I don’t need to be onstage for people to listen. Now people hear my voice. This is just the beginning

Ayn Bernos has already worn her crown. The fact that she redefined beauty queen standards and made it her own—that in itself is already a victory. You did well, kween! @aynbernos #MissUniversePhilippines2021 pic.twitter.com/q4MDYxoTU8
