The Internet is congratulating Kylie Verzosa for her Miss Universe win
The word is out that the country crowned its first openly queer Miss Universe Philippines winner, who advocates for Gender Sensitivity and Awareness. While Beatrice Luigi Gomez trended online, many users can’t help but compare how she looks like a fellow beauty queen.
Along with the congratulatory tweets, some users pointed out that Beatrice looked like a mix of Kylie Verzosa and Pia Wurtzbach, while some said they see a combo of Maggie Wilson and Kylie Verzosa. But either way, the posts had a common denominator: Kylie.
Pageant fans instantly made a lighthearted joke as they took to social media their celebratory posts and mentioned Kylie paired with Beatrice’s photo. On Instagram Stories, the 29-year-old praised the 2021 Miss Universe PH victor and posted a string of tagged posts. She added, ‘Grabe kayo mag tag guys, parang ako yung nanalo.’
Not to mix things up, Kylie is also a beauty pageant winner. In fact, she’s lauded as the sixth Filipina to win the Miss International title back in 2016. With her global platform, she continues to advocate for mental health and breaking stereotypes.
During her run, Kylie was included among the 15 candidates who explained their piece on why they should win the title. She explained that culture, education, and international understanding are three things that work together to make the brand of the beauty pageant relevant to the global community and the present time.
‘If I become Miss International 2016, I will devote myself to cultural understanding and international understanding,’ she stated. ‘Because I believe that it is by developing in each of us sensitivity to other cultures that we expand our horizons, tolerate difference, and appreciate diversity. All this enables us to achieve international understanding. And I believe that I am prepared to take on this responsibility.”
