BL series ‘Gameboys’ is the only PH nominee for the 2021 Emmy Awards
There are many series that have touched the hearts of both the gay community and people all over the country during the pandemic. One of which is probably the Filipino Boys’ Love (BL) series Gameboys, which received a nomination from the 2021 International Emmy Awards.
The Idea First Company, the producer of the show, announced their nomination under the ‘Kids: Live-Action’ category. It is also the only nominee from the Philippines.
Gameboys will compete against three different films from Australia, Netherlands, and Argentina. Other competing entries in the category can be seen on Emmy’s website.
Gameboys was filmed during the earlier days of lockdowns in May 2020. It follows the story of two teenage boys named Cairo (Elijah Canlas) and Gavreel (Kokoy De Santos). Both of them have met and fallen in love online. Their relationship was set in a life-changing pandemic, where their relationship unfolds virtually through social media interaction and video calls.
In an earlier statement, Executive Producer Jun Robles Lana explained that the series is ultimately about love overcoming all boundaries. He added, ‘I think that is what makes it so resonant with audiences around the world. We want to believe that you can still find love and companionship even in the middle of a pandemic.’
