Dear Mariah Carey, Jose Mari Chan hopes you’ll cover his songs

People welcome the so-called ‘Ber months’ in different ways. Some may plan their sweater weather wardrobe, while others are already preparing their wishlists. But Filipinos celebrated it with Jose Mari Chan and Mariah Carey memes and songs.

In an interview with host Amy Perez at Teleradyo’s Sakto show on Wednesday, Jose Mari Chan mentioned his fellow iconic Christmas song maker, ‘Mariah Carey, she’s one of my respected artists. And one day, it is my dream that she could sing one of my songs.’ 

‘I’m not dreaming of singing with her because I may not be able to reach her key [and] her pitch,’ he added. ‘Her voice is so powerful and mine is just soothing, crooning. But if she could sing one of my songs – wow – dream come true ‘yun!’ 

Apart from hoping for a cover, Perez told Chan about the huge amount of memes related to him that circulated online. He shared that he saw some himself and explained, ‘I feel complimented that I’m associated with the most joyful season of the year.’

‘They keep using the same photo that was taken seven or eight years ago,’ said Chan when referring to the memes. ‘So, at least in the eyes of social media, Jose Mari Chan doesn’t look a day older.’

While Christmas is around the corner, Chan acknowledged the challenging time and encouraged everyone to get vaccinated. He even shared the ‘three P’s’ he goes by, ‘Be patient, be protected and be prayerful most of all during this time of the pandemic.’ 

While waiting (and hoping) for Mariah Carey to cover one of his songs, maybe you can just make a Christmas playlist for now with Christmas In Our Hearts and All I Want For Christmas as the first two songs.
