Man named “Harry Potter” will auction a rare ‘Harry Potter’ book for P2 million
There have been many baby names that turned heads like Elon Musk and Grimes’ son named X Æ A-12 or Kim K and Kanye’s first child North West. But a man named his son Harry Potter, who coincidentally has the same name as a character in a popular book-turned-movie. Recently, the real-life Harry actually has a copy of a rare edition of J.K. Rowling’s novel and it’s up for auction for £20,000 to £30,000 (approximately P1 to P2 million).
Harry was eight years old when Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone was published in 1997. There were only 500 books distributed during the first print run, and his first-edition copy will be up for grabs soon at the Hansons Auctioneers on October 7. The proceeds will be used to honor his late father and will be shared with his sister Katie.
‘Selling the book then, despite its financial value, was of no interest to us. It was one of few lasting, tangible treasures we had from our dad,’ said Katie. But as time went by, they realized that rare first editions could sell for thousands of pounds. With the proceeds from the sale, the two siblings would like to take their father’s ashes to Africa. They said it’s the place their dad wished to be placed to rest.
The 33-year-old is currently a national sales manager. For the past 25 years, he tried to convince Pottermania that his name was indeed Harry Potter. He shared that people just don’t believe him at times. When he was a young football player, a referee threatened him with a red card during a match because of his name and his wife didn’t believe him back then either.
Despite having a hard time convincing people that his name was identical to the fictional wizard, Harry said it also came with perks. He shared, ‘When I was 12 and the first Potter film was released we were invited to be family of the week on the Big Breakfast TV show. I met lots of stars including Gwen Stefani and Ben Stiller.’
