OG ‘Blues Clues’ host Steve has a message for your grown-up self

Back when times were more simple, one of the things that probably kept you company was the show Blue’s Clues. As the adorable dog playfully moves around your television, OG host Steve Burns was also there to guide you throughout an episode. However, your childhood self might have been wondering why he suddenly left in 2002. Nick Jr. released a video of him reminiscing and explaining his departure.

The video opened with Steve looking a bit older than the last time you saw him. He was wearing a green striped polo, but instead of holding a notebook, he had a pair of glasses and a cap. He asked, ‘Hi, you got a second?’

He then continued to recall the good ol’ days, ‘You remember how when we were younger we used to run around and hang out with Blue, and find clues, and talk to Mr. Salt, and freak out about the mail, and do all the fun stuff? And then one day, I was like, ‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news… I’m leaving.’

‘Can we just talk about that?’, Steve proceeded and asked.

Just like the rest of us, there’s a lot of growing up to do and his reason was simple: he had to pursue higher education. He explained, ‘That was really challenging by the way, but great because I got to use my mind and take a step at a time and now I literally am doing many of the things that I wanted to do.’

‘Look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time,’ Steve continued. ‘And it’s just… it’s just so amazing, right? I mean, we started out with clues and now it’s what? Student loans, and jobs, and families, and some of that has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know.’

He acknowledges his now grown-up audience and said that he couldn’t have done all that without their help. He added, ‘I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years I never forgot you. Ever. And I’m super glad we’re still friends…’

‘You look great, by the way. Whatever it is that you’re doing, it’s working,’ Steve said as he addressed the viewers one last time before the video ended.

The nostalgic video was released in celebration of Blue’s Clues 25th anniversary.
