Online Inuman: Some Metro Manila cities have lifted their liquor ban under Alert Level 4
While many people use online video call platforms for school and work, some use them to unwind, often with their fave drink in hand. But alcohol went on to be prohibited in certain areas in the metro due to the recent MECQ restrictions in the country. Now, the mayors of Manila, Quezon City, and San Juan, have decided to once again grant God’s gift to their citizens by lifting the liquor ban in their areas.
On Thursday, the Manila City Government officially declared on their website that business establishments in their area are allowed to resume selling liquor products under the Alert Level 4 of the General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Moreno signed Executive Order No. 29, which states the city “finds no imperativeness to impose a liquor ban for now.”
The decision followed after consultation regarding the matter with local government officials and the private sector. Enterprises in Manila can sell liquor products until September 30. But while the return of liquid courage is a welcome development, the curfew in these cities and other areas in the National Capital Region will still be in effect from 10 PM to 4 AM.
Earlier this week reports on Quezon City and San Juan City also declared that consumption of alcohol is allowed once again starting September 16. However, people are only allowed to drink inside their homes (cue: online inuman) and restaurants. It is still prohibited to drink in public places like roads, parks, etc.

On Thursday, Metro Manila started testing the new COVID-19 alert level system along with granular lockdowns. The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) released the guidelines on Monday for the five alert levels to help further curb the spread of coronavirus and its variants.
