The cast of Netflix’s ‘Don’t Look Up’ got the Internet excited
If you haven’t heard about Adam McKay, you probably heard of his movies like Marvel’s Ant-Man, The Dictator, and many more. The director is also behind the upcoming Netflix film Don’t Look Up — and the cast involves an ensemble of big names that will make you go wild.
The streaming giant released Don’t Look Up‘s official trailer where you’ll see two low-level astronomers (Leonardo Di Caprio and Jennifer Lawrence) who must go on a huge media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy the planet Earth. You’ll also see Meryl Streep who plays the role of the President of the United States, and Jonah Hill who plays her son.
You’ll catch the cameos and names of other popular celebrities that are cast for the movie, namely Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi (a.k.a. Kid Cudi), Timothée Chalamet, Christ Evans, Rob Morgan, Cate Blanchett, Himesh Patel, Tomer Sisley, and Melanie Lynskey, among many others.
McKay said that the movie was set to be a climate change allegory, but the ongoing pandemic caused a shift in its thematic focus. But he explained that changing the parts of the storyline is not a major concern, and he describes it as a dark comedy.
‘We can’t even talk to each other anymore. We can’t even agree. So it’s about climate change, but at its root it’s about what has the internet, what have cellphones, what has the modern world done to the way we communicate?’ added the filmmaker.
While Don’t Look Up is something to look forward to in cinemas on December 10, and Netflix on the 24th, some people on Twitter couldn’t contain their excitement. One user joked about Netflix having insufficient funds after they paid the star-studded cast.
Given that the movie has A-list actors, Netflix was reported to have set a $75 million budget. $55 million of which went to DiCaprio and Lawrence to play the leading roles. The two actors were apparently given $30 million and $25 million, respectively.
