This man sued a psychic for promising to remove his ex-girlfriend’s curse

People sometimes do literally anything to keep a relationship. A man named Mauro Restrepo chose an unusual way to protect his marriage. He approached psychic Sophia Adams, who promised that she could save him from an ex-girlfriend’s curse if he paid her $5,100 (approximately P259,686).

During a tarot reading session, Adams told Restrepo that he had mala suerte or “bad luck” caused by a witch that was hired by his former lover. The said spell would cause harm to his marriage and children unless it would be removed. He then gave her an initial deposit of $1,000 (P50,000) but the suit claims that it didn’t help him in any way. It also stated that he has been experiencing sleepless nights, anxiety, and anguish.

Restrepo had his reasons for trusting Adams since her website labels her as a “psychic love specialist” and “Ph.D. Life Coach”. She also has licenses for psychic services and operates her business at a leased Palos Verdes Estates home. With those credentials, the lawsuit explained that it “made plaintiff more confident that he was speaking with a professional that could help him”.

Restrepo filed a lawsuit with allegations that include charges of negligence, civil conspiracy, and both intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. He seeks at least $25,000 (P1.2 million) in compensatory and punitive damages.

Apart from Adams, the lawsuit is also addressed to her business, husband, daughter, and landlords. It alleges that even though they knew that the psychic used her business to cause harm to others in the community, these people didn’t prevent it from happening.
