Dancing in front of the refrigerator light is expensive, says Meralco

Taylor Swift recently dropped her album Red (Taylor’s Version) and fans were particularly excited to hear the 10-minute version of the song All Too Well. Part of the lyrics goes, ‘We’re dancing ’round the kitchen in the refrigerator light.’ While the idea of it sounds romantic, Meralco published a Facebook post explaining that it would cost a lot in your electricity bill.

The electric power company hopped on one of the track’s most iconic lyrics and explained, ‘If you leave your refrigerator door open and dance to its light, it would cost P9.79/day.’

‘But wouldn’t it be better to dance beside Christmas tree lights kahit all-night slow dancing pa yan, which will cost around P0.30/hour?,’ it suggested. The figures shown were based on Meralco’s PowerLab tests.

Meralco credited Francis Raul Quimson, who posted photos on a public Facebook group named ‘Taylor Marie Joy Batumbakal Swift Posting’. The user shared a screenshot of Dylan O’Brien and Sadie Sink from All Too Well‘s short film re-enacting the said lyrics and an image of an electricity bill amounting to over P23,000.

As Taylor Swift broke Swifties’ hearts all over again, she also broke Spotify records because of Red (Taylor’s Version). The streaming platform’s spokesperson said she has the most-streamed album in a day by a female and she is the most-streamed female in a day in Spotify history.

Apart from putting out another successful record, she directed All Too Well: The Short Film, which was premiered a day after her album’s release. It garnered over 27 million views in two days, as of writing.
