Rihanna is now a National Hero
People know Rihanna for many different things – from being a Grammy-award winning musician, a makeup kween, an actress, and a billionaire entrepreneur. But recently, she was also named as the National Hero of her home country Barbados.
On Monday, the Caribbean nation had its presidential inauguration as it finally transitioned into a republic, with Prime Minister Mia Mottley as its new leader after the official removal of Queen Elizabeth II as head of state.
On the same day, Rihanna’s high honor was also given by Mottley. The prime minister said, ‘On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we therefore present to you the designee for national hero of Barbados, Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty.’
‘May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honor to your nation by your works, by your actions and to do credit wherever you shall go,’ Mottley continued as she referenced one of Rihanna’s iconic songs.
"I'm so proud to be a Bajan! I'm gonna be a Bajan 'til the day I die. This is still the only place I've ever called home!"

During Rihanna’s acceptance speech, she admitted that being named as a National Hero wasn’t something that she saw coming. She added, ‘I’m so proud to be a Bajan! I’m gonna be a Bajan ’til the day I die. This is still the only place I’ve ever called home.’
Out of all the accolades that Rihanna has received, being a National Hero surely lives up to her multi-hyphenate name. The title was only given to 11 people, with her being the second woman to receive it. Barbados also declared February 22 as ‘Rihanna Day‘ back in 2008. The 33-year-old would sometimes return to the country for that day and perform for fellow Barbadians.
