Spotify removes shuffle mode after Adele asks for it

After releasing her new album 30, Adele points out how artists carefully curate the order of songs in their albums to convey a story. After she commented on the matter, Spotify somewhat granted her request in removing the ‘Shuffle’ option and placed the ‘Play’ button as default in album pages to preserve the narrative of a record.

However, the streaming platform didn’t eliminate the shuffle mode feature as a whole as it still remains as an option and can be seen in the ‘Now Playing View’. The long-requested option for the ‘Play’ button as a default on all albums was rolled out as a Premium feature.

The Grammy award-winning singer expressed her gratitude through a tweet. She said, ‘This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry!’

‘We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason,’ she continued. ‘Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended.’

Spotify replied to Adele’s tweet and said, ‘Anything for you.’

After six years, Adele’s latest offering 30, fueled the Sad Girl November phase of many listeners. She is also among the musicians who pushed for the ‘Play’ button choice, according to Spotify’s announcement on the change.

The audio platform also said that the singer’s fourth studio album garnered 60.7 million streams worldwide on the day of its launch, making it one of the most-streamed albums on its release. The highest record is at 90.8 million, which was accomplished by Taylor Swift a week earlier.
