Harry Styles’ viral TikTok cardigan is now an NFT

If you’ve been following Harry Styles ever since, then you’d notice that colorful knitwear cardigan from JW Anderson that he sported last year. Many people wanted to have it, and now auction platform Xydrobe turned that vivid patchwork top into a non-fungible token or NFT.

Back in February 2020, the 27-year-old performed in the Today Show while wearing the luxury labels’ Colourblock Patchwork Cardigan, which is priced at $1,890 (approximately P95,300). Since not everyone has extra money to spare, people sparked a TikTok trend as they tried recreating the knitwear in question.

Meanwhile, one of Xydrobe’s founders Neil Lloyd-Malcolm shared their process of showing the idea to the famed cardigan’s creator, Jonathan Anderson. They spent over 300 hours generating the life-like piece. He said: ‘We presented this project to JW Anderson every single week, and ensured that every little stitch was as it is [on the original].’

While the future color-blocked cardigan NFT owner will not be able to wear it IRL, the fashion-forward digital assets plarform will be able to capture the winning bidder “wearing it” virtually.

The garment was so talked about that London’s Victoria & Albert Museum requested for the garment to be put on display. After it became an internet, hit JW Anderson’s official website ended up posting the knit pattern saying that it’s a gift to all TikTok Cardigan fans.

The post added, ‘I am so impressed and incredibly humbled by this trend and everyone knitting the cardigan. I really wanted to show our appreciation so we are sharing the pattern with everyone. Keep it up!’

Xydrobe is “the first NFT auction platform to sell hyper-realistic digital collectibles of internationally renowned designs across fashion and luxury goods.”
