Filipinos are into weddings the most in Southeast Asia, study says
Filipinos have placed the top spots in worldwide rankings including UK’s top foreign business owner and the ultimate pet parents in Southeast Asia (SEA). Recently, information aggregator iPrice Group’s study identifies the Philippines as the most interested in weddings in 2021 among other countries in SEA.
The study covered five Southeast Asian countries and used the following factors to conduct their research: marriage registrations for the past 2-3 years, their Google searches for wedding-related keywords, and an estimated budget on how much a pandemic wedding would cost.
When it comes to searches connected to weddings, the Philippines ranked about 3.4 times higher than other countries’ total searches. Some of the words were: wedding rings, wedding bands, engagement rings, and wedding dress, among others. The study added that the keywords were searched in their local translations.
iPrice created an estimated computation on the average mid-range Filipino wedding during the pandemic compared to the pre-COVID days. Reputable local vendors’ figures assembled by online wedding store My Bridesmade stated that this type of wedding would amount to around P566,000 with 150 guests.
So a wedding with 20% of those guests (30 guests) would amount to P264,888 which is 53% less than the pre-COVID wedding cost. A couple tying the knot during the pandemic will save about P301,112 in total.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Statistical Authority stated that marriage registrations in 2020 have dropped by 44%, from an average of 432,000 to 241,000. But these numbers appear to be rising again in 2021. PSA’s details only cover data until October 2021, which already surpassed the registrations of the full first pandemic year by 7%.
Using the average registrations from January to October 2021, iPrice expects that the entire year of 2021’s digits will exceed 2020’s by almost 28%. The Philippines had the most drastic change in marriage registrations among the SEA countries observed in the study.
