Filipinos to Justin Bieber on his birthday: ‘shot na’, ‘may shanghai?’
Birthday greetings can come in many forms. You can see it on social media, say it personally, or maybe through the icing on a cake. But SM Mall of Asia went a little bit extra and lit up the MOA Globe to celebrate Justin Bieber’s big day on March 1.
On Facebook, the 28-year-old singer posted a photo of the mall’s iconic landmark and said, ‘Thank you, Philippines.’
Filipinos got creative in the comments section and replied by asking ‘May shanghai pa?’, referring to the food seen in local celebrations. Others also said their belated greetings as they jokingly called him their “ex”, “tropa”, and “twin”.
Some of the replies also sounded like the typical responses you get from your barkada – ‘Pass muna ako ngayon pre busy pa eh’, ‘Tara shot mamaya’, ‘Man pasundo dito na ko sa labas niyo’, and ‘Hindi ka nag yaya ah’. One user said, ‘You’re welcome kahit wala along ambag’, which definitely reminds you of that one friend who showed up but didn’t pay for anything.
Filipino fans a.k.a. Beliebers were quick to engage in Bieber’s post, which has 331,000 reactions, 41,000 comments, and 346 shares as of writing. Universal Music Group Philippines also shared a short video showing the MOA globe and snippets of the superstar.
Last Tuesday, Bieber posted a photo of himself looking hyped up on stage and described it as his “birthday mood”. Meanwhile, his wife Hailey Bieber, dedicated a series of photos on Instagram and wrote a sweet caption, ‘There are a lot of amazing and beautiful things about this life, but the most beautiful part is that I get to live it with you.’
