Manila ranks as 9th best city to solve Wordle

You probably heard your friends rave about playing the Wordle app. The game became so big that it now has several iterations like Taylordle, which centers on Taylor Swift. But the OG game remains superior and Filipinos are good at it since Manila reportedly ranked 9th as the best city to solve Wordle.

According to a study by word navigator site WordTips, players from Manila had a Wordle average of 3.72 guesses. This lands the city capital in a tie with Geneva, Switzerland. But Australia’s cities took over the global Wordle scene as three of them were part of the top 10.

The word finder platform used Twitter data to analyze and find the countries and cities with the best Wordle averages worldwide. It gathered 195,248 tweets with the hashtag #Wordle by using Twitter API. But only 142,669 tweets were used to extract game scores.

In case you’re wondering, those colored boxes flooding your Twitter feed shows Wordle points. The researchers used those to look for scores presented as a fraction (ex: 3/6 or 5/6) and the gird of squares. They also tried to get the user’s location for accuracy.

Meanwhile, Twitter data revealed that ever since the popular word game was introduced in 2021, there have been 1.7 million tweets saying “Wordle” globally. However, the study only pulled tweets that used the Wordle hashtag. If you happen to share your results earlier in January, then your data could be part of this.

Below are the top 10 cities with the best Wordle scores:

  1. Canberra, Australia
  2. Jerusalem, Israel
  3. Malmö, Sweden
  4. Durban, South Africa
  5. Paris, France
  6. Perth, Australia
  7. Melbourne, Australia
  8. Adelaide, Australia
  9. Manila, Philippines
  10. Geneva, Switzerland
