Andrea’s ‘sinabawang hotdog’ was intentional, says ‘Tahanan’ director

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

You’ve probably seen that clip of Andrea Brillantes taste-testing frying oil while she cooks hotdogs. The snippet, shared by Facebook page Meme in Black, is lifted from the music video of Tahanan, the newest single by OPM artist Adie.  It’s a hilarious, head-shaking, even nostalgic reminder of the early attempts of 20-somethings to feed themselves.

Thousands of reactions and two million-plus views later, the MV’s director, Kris Ulrich Cazin, clarified on his page that a) those hotdogs are swimming in water, not oil and b) it was intentional. He posted a screenshot of his comment/explainer on the music video.

According to Cazin, the water was meant to boil to mimic the effects of a sizzling pan, instead of having Andrea cook for real for safety reasons.

The scene was also meant to look silly, as Cazin originally planned to have Andrea say “Okay naman”, referring to the catchphrase of vlogger chef Ninong Rhy.

“I just thought it looks dumb so I went for it”

Cazin also inserted a tidbit in his post: Don’t expect all women can cook.

“Ipagluluto ka parin niya kahit di siya marunong magluto. Show mo parin ang pagtingin mo sakanya, mahal mo parin siya despite mukha siyang ewan na umiinom ng sabaw ng hotdog.”

Regardless if sinabawang hotdog was dumb fun or real oversight, the Tahanan MV has 800K+ views and counting. Publicity was made, and hey, the song’s pretty decent too.
