You can watch Lino Brocka films for free in CCP and online

For those who want to explore local films from the 70s and 80s, the CCP Arthouse Cinema will finally have its on-site screening after over two years. It will feature award-winning films by National Artist Lino Brocka, on April 22, 2022, at the Tanghalang Manuel Conde.

To celebrate the birth month of the late Filipino filmmaker, there will be a special screening of Bayan Ko: Kapit sa Patalim at 1 pm. It’s about a laborer named Turing, who works in a printing press and signs a contract agreeing not to participate in any labor union.

When a strike begins, Turing refuses to support his colleagues. As a result, he and his pregnant wife find themselves alone and without help, leading him to become involved in a robbery.

Meanwhile, Insiang will also show at 4 pm. The 1976 film follows the story of a young girl living with her mother in the slums of Manila. Her life becomes unbearable when her mother’s young boyfriend moves in with them.

Limited seats will be available for this on-site screening. On April 20, CCP’s Film, Broadcast, and New Media Division announced that there were only 20 slots left. But keep your eye out if they’ll open more slots and make sure to fill up the pre-register form (https://forms.gle/ZJTshJoNb3HHRE4m7).

Those who will watch the films on-site will get a limited copy of the Scenes Reclaimed catalog. But for those who want to watch in the comfort of their bedrooms, both films will also be available worldwide from April 23 to 29 on the CCP Vimeo Channel for free.
