Boracay has reached its highest arrivals during the pandemic

A few months ago, the Philippines was named Asia’s leading beach and dive destination at the 2021 World Travel Awards. The country has many beautiful beaches including Boracay Island, which has recently set a record for the highest number of tourists since the pandemic started.

If numbers set the record straight, it’s possible that you or your friends were part of the 150,597 tourists who visited Boracay in March 2022. A huge number of the visitors were domestic tourists, who made up for the 146,440 arrivals. Foreign vacationers were only at 2,533, while 1,624 tourists were Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

Even when there’s still a much-needed strategy for attracting foreign tourists, the data shows significant progress. According to the Malay Tourism Office, there was a great 69,715 increase in visitors who went to the famous beach compared to the 80,882 travelers who visited in February.

Meanwhile, the data also showed that the popular destination has catered to over 167,070 tourists who visited last January 2020 a.k.a. two months before travel rules were carried out. The local government of Malay and the Department of Tourism (DOT) are hoping for more tourists to spend time in Boracay for the summer.

According to Inquirer, officials explained that the entry of foreign tourists is critical for Boracay’s economy to recover since they are the ones to stay longer and splurge more when visiting.

Tourists will definitely enjoy their stay since there is no curfew at the moment, but masks are required to be worn in public at all times in public in Boracay Island. Aklan province is still battling the COVID-19 virus, but cases are slowly declining.
