Catch the ‘parade of planets’ in the sky until June 28, says PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has given people a heads up on many celestial body sightings. The weather bureau recently shared that a “parade of planets” is visible in the southeastern sky.
You can see Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn when you look up at clear skies. These planets can be seen accompanied by the moon until June 28. PAGASA said on Facebook, ‘The last such event took place in 2004, and if you miss this one, you will have to wait until August 2040 for another planetary parade to take place.’
As seen below, the agency posted a photo of the celestial parade, which presented every planet that is expected to be seen except for Saturn. It was taken on June 24 at the PAGASA Astronomical Observatory, UP Diliman, Quezon City at 4:42 AM.
If you’re not a morning person, it could still be worth it to catch the pre-dawn sky since it will be the first time in 18 years for you to see the mentioned planets all lined up.
According to BBC Science Focus, one of the great things about the planetary alignment is its brightness, which makes the planets visible under clear skies and an “unobstructed view” of the eastern and southern horizons.
