Filipino SEA Games winners will receive double their incentives
The 2022 Southeast Asian Games have come to an end, and the Philippine team came home with countless awards. Because of the medalists’ efforts during the biennial meet, President Rodrigo Duterte showed his gratitude by doubling their incentives.
Duterte was matching a total of P34,537,500 in cash bonuses that all of the winners will receive under Republic Act 10699, the incentives law. Under the rule, an individual gold medal is worth P300,000, a silver, P150,000, and P60,000 for the bronze.
Gymnast Carlos Yulo, who will receive P1.6 million after clinching five golds and two silvers in the recent SEA Games, now fetches a whopping P3.2 million for his remarkable feats in the multisport event. Meanwhile, the dancesport duo of Sean Mischa Aranar and Ana Leonila Nualla, who won three golds, is rewarded with P1.8 million apiece.
During the reception held at the Rizal Hall, Duterte addressed the athletes, coaches, and sports officials in his speech. He said, ‘Please know that I really recognize all the tedious preparations you have made to perform your best in this regional sports competition.’
‘Just like a father to every Filipino, I am very proud of you,’ Duterte added. He also awarded the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the rank of Kamagi to other medalists, including billiards icon Efren “Bata” Reyes.
The Kamagi Medal is awarded to individuals who actively participated in and contributed to a campaign or advocacy of the President.
