This 17-year-old Filipina won two golds in Youth World Championships
Ever wondered if the Philippines will have a Hidilyn Diaz 2.0? Rose Jean Ramos, a 17-year-old Filipina from Zamboanga, scored a pair of gold medals and one silver in the 2022 International Weightlifting Federation Youth World Championships.
During the women’s 45kg division, Ramos lifted 85 kilograms in the clean and jerk and a 70kgs on her third try in the snatch, with a 155kg total. The young weightlifter had ruled her class for three consecutive years as she topped the online Peru event in 2020 and the 2021 feat held on-site in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Speaking with Manila Times, Ramos said that she will try her best “to win again” and “give honor” to the country. Meanwhile, Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella said, ‘We’re on a roll… Here we come Paris 2024. We’re beating the best in the world. We can do it.’
During the recent Youth World Championships, Ramos beat Kerlys Maria Montilla of Venezuela, who landed second in the total with 153, and Soumya Sunil Dalvi of India ended up third in the total with 148.
Ramos is set to join Vietnam SEAG champion Vanessa Sarno in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in July. Puentevella also sees that Ramos could represent the country in the 2024 Paris Olympics with Diaz and Sarno.
