This Filipina author’s graphic novel will be published by Disney books
There are many stories and epics worth discovering in Philippine mythology – and Filipina author and illustrator Tori Tadiar got the opportunity to share it to the world. Her graphic novel based on local mythology Highsummer will be released under Disney Hyperion.
Yup, that means the same publisher of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series will give Tadiar’s work a chance. She posted on her social media pages that it will be a trilogy, and the first one is set to debut in 2024.
Highsummer will follow a 12-year-old girl named Mika, a student at Ilustra Junior High School. As she tries to undo the accidental spell she casts on her two classmates, she awakens ancient gods and a sun-devouring beast. For her to save the world from mythical beings set loose, Mika will have to team up with her former bullies.
So excited to finally share thatHIGHSUMMER will be published by @DisneyBooks!

While Tadiar is busy working on her soon-to-be international graphic novel, she is also a full-time IT professional. Her award-winning works that were previously published include Sagala, Team Abangers, and Ang Estilong Trumpo.
After Tadiar announced her opportunity with Disney books on Twitter, online users flooded her with appreciation and expressed that they can’t wait to read it. Another user also shared how they got rejected by PH publishers in the past since the market was “high on fantasy novels.”
