Yes, Cayetano sees your ’10k ayuda’ comments

Politicians have made countless promises that sound reassuring, but some don’t see the light of day. Case in point: Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s House Bill No. 8597, which was filed in February 2021. The bill aims to provide funds worth P10,000 to every Filipino family, or P1,500 per family member.

During the Taguig City official’s oath-taking ceremony, Cayetano said that his “10K Ayuda Bill” still needs approval from the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Palace. He said, ‘Sa mga nangba-bash sa 10K ayuda, kung kaya ko lang silang bigyan ng tag-sasampung libo, binigay ko na sa kanila.’

The senator also clarified that the bill is different from the privately funded “Sampung Libong Pag-asa” program that distributed P10,000 to select beneficiaries. He added critics should just help instead of attacking the program.

The measure was created to support Filipino families with their needs amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Recipients may use it to put up or revive their own businesses that were shuttered. But the bill didn’t padss Congress as part of the Bayanihan 3 COVID-19 aid package.

Cayetano still aims to push for his proposal in the Senate and even called on Taguig-Pateros Rep. Ricardo ‘Ading’ Cruz Jr. and Taguig 2nd District Rep. Maria Amparo Zamora to also file the counterpart bill in the HOR.

Meanwhile, the 10K Ayuda proposal has been a consistent source of memes on the Internet. Twitter users had photoshopped Cayetano on a mock P10,000 bill, while others quipped he must give out funds because of the upcoming concerts.
