As long as the songs are good, we can care less about what Ariel looks like

Ariel is a mermaid, she doesn’t HAVE to be white

Even the OG voice of Ariel praised Halle Bailey’s performance!

Since the announcement of Halle Bailey as Ariel, some have been very vocal about their disdain for the casting of a POC as the beloved red-haired mermaid.

Now that the teaser for the upcoming live-action film is out, the outpour of support is coupled with those that continue to question the casting decision.

Their argument is that Ariel SHOULD be white. But is skin color really necessary for a character that is based on a mythical creature?

As long as Ariel can sing which Halle, a Grammy-nominated singer, is surely able to do, then a key characteristic of the character, at least the Disney version of it, has already been covered.

Halle proved her singing chops in the trailer, where she sang a snippet of the iconic power ballad ‘Part of your World’.

Although there was feedback about the production quality and certain hostility because of Disney’s sub-par performance with recent live-action remakes (Mulan, The Lion King) comments laced with racism are simply NOT IT.

The release of the teaser trailer was part of Disney 100 where they announced the upcoming movies Walt Disney Studios has lined up for this year and next.
