After being nominated for an Emmy, Erik Matti is heading to the Oscars

On the Job: The Missing 8 is the official Philippine entry to the 2023 Academy Awards

Per a post made by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) on Facebook, ‘On the Job: The Missing 8′ by Direk Erik Matti is the Philippines’ entry to the Best International Feature Film category of the 95th Academy Awards.

The FDCP congratulated the team behind ‘On the Job’ commenting that the Oscar win may be the country’s this year.

The Missing 8′ revolves around Sisoy Salas (John Arcilla), a pro-government journalist who through circumstance, will rethink his political stance. The film also features the story of Roman Rubio (Dennis Trillo), a wrongly accused gun-for-hire that got imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit.

On the Job: The Missing 8′ made its debut at the 78th Venice International Film Festival where John Arcilla won the Best Actor Award, the Philippines’ first-ever Volpi Cup win.

The film is the 2021 sequel to the 2013 movie ‘On the Job’ which follows jailed convicts that were temporarily released to the outside world to perform assassinations.

Online streaming platform HBO Go turned the franchise into a six-part miniseries after The Missing 8 was released that same year.

On September 30, the miniseries received an Emmy Nomination for the Best Television Movie or Miniseries category.

Direk Erik Matti has since then acknowledged his Emmy and Oscars on Instagram, calling them an honor and already a win for the Philippines!
