Skyrocketing her career during the pandemic, Anya Taylor-Joy’s captivating performance as Beth Harmon in Netflix’s ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ was only the tip of Anya’s booked and busy 2019.

The actress sat down and shared with Harper’s Bazaar how she acknowledges jumping from project to project might not be the best for her mental health in the long run.
“In 2019, I made ‘Emma’, then had one day off and did ‘Last Night in Soho, then had a day off and did ‘The Queen’s Gambit’.”
Anya recalled how on her drive back from the English countryside to start working on ‘Soho’ the next day, she caught herself thinking “You’re allowed one hour to cry. You get one hour to heave and sob and be grateful for the incredible experience you had, and then you need to start focusing on what you’re going to do tomorrow.”

The recipient also spoke up about her consciousness that women have to work harder to assert their rights than men generally and in Hollywood. Thankfully, in the past couple of years, Anya’s been able to speak up about things she was not ok with. “Eventually you get stepped on enough that you start to stand up and say no.”
As a people pleaser, Anya admits she finds it hard to say no, but she recognizes she is now in a position where she can ask herself “do you feel passionate enough about this to spend seven months living all the way across the world, away from everyone you know and love?”
If she finds the answer to that being yes, then she’ll probably do it.
Her hustle, craft, and range definitely made her deserving to be a recipient of the Actress award at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards 2022.
