Glee’s Kevin McHale will not return as Artie for a Glee reboot

Truly some narratives back in the day won’t make it these days

We’re thankful to Kevin for this decision!

Kevin McHale, who brought Glee’s Artie Abrams to life, believes he shouldn’t reprise his role as the Glee club member best known for his wheelchair.

As reported by Variety, the conversation about a ‘Glee’ reboot began when show co-creator Ryan Murphy toyed with the idea of returning the Fox musical comedy in an episode of And That’s What YOU REALLY Missed podcast hosted by Kevin McHale and his ‘Glee’ co-star Jenna Ushkowitz who played the character of Tina Cohen-Chang.

However, Kevin McHale expressed his sentiments as to why it is best we all expect that he won’t be in the reboot.

“Knowing what we know now, I don’t think I should be playing a character in a wheelchair.” Kevin shared in an interview with Insider. He adds, “If they let me grow out of my beard and play a different character, I’ll do it.”

In a 2019 episode of his podcast ‘Showmance’ still with his ‘Glee’ co-star Jenna Ushkowitz, he said “It couldn’t happen today. What were we thinking? I can’t play that part.” about being an able-bodied actor who played a disabled character.

On the other hand, Jenna said she would only participate in the reboot if Ryan Murphy was involved. “I think if it could be done in the right way, he would do it.”

So here’s hoping Ryan Murphy would be on board and let Kevin play a different character should there really be a ‘Glee’ reboot dedicated to all the Gleeks out there.
