Chaired by Sen. Risa Hontiveros, the SOGIE Equality Bill is now approved at the Senate Level Committee

19 out of 24 senators have signed Committee Report No. 15 submitted by the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations, and Gender Equality.
Chaired by opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros, the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and (Gender) Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) bill that seeks to penalize discrimination has been passed on Tuesday, December 6.
Senator Hontiveros announced through a tweet that 19 out of the 24 senators have come to show their support for the bill moving forward!
Along with Hontiveros, the senators who signed the committee report are Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, Senator Sonny Angara, Sen. Imee Marcos, Sen. Cynthia Villar, Sen. Nancy Binay, Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Sen. Grace Poe, Sen. Mark Villar, Sen. Francis Tolentino, Sen. JV Ejercito, Sen. Robin Padilla, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, Sen. Lito Lapid, Sen. Chiz Escudero, Sen. Loren Legarda, Sen. Bong Go, and Sen. Bong Revilla.

“Mas lalo along nabuhayan ng loob na sa Kongresong ito, maipapasa na sa wakas ang SOGIE bill!” exclaimed Hontiveros. The lawmaker was also ecstatic as she and her colleagues were able to come in support of the bill within just a day.
The Internet was also quick to celebrate Hontiveros’ announcement, thanking her for the progress of the much-needed legislation.
