Show performers respect: It’s never okay to pull on someone’s hair

Performers do what they can to entertain and the least those in the audience can do is show them some respect.

While taking the stage in Edmonton, Canada, someone in the crowd decided to tug on Vice Ganda’s hair. Something the comedian was definitely not okay with—for good reason.

User @yeg_oilers uploaded the incident from the VGful concert last April 16 on TikTok, with the video going viral getting over 2 million views.

In the clip, a person yanked Vice’s hair, which made him immediately respond with, “Don’t do that. That’s very disrespectful. You don’t do that. You have to say sorry to me.”

“I’m trying to give you a wonderful time, but don’t hurt me,” the comedian continued. “That’s not right. We have to be friends here. Don’t hurt me.”

Netizens applauded Vice for calling out the rude audience member and empathized with the celebrity.

“Vice was absolutely right about these [two] pulling her wig. Unacceptable behavior at all. They should know what is acceptable and not,” one user commented.

“Just because you paid, [doesn’t mean] you can [do] anything you want to the performer,” another added.

“Vice needed to do that. Para alam ng tao na she also haves limits,” another user chimed in.

It goes without saying that performers should be treated with respect. On the streets, you don’t pull on someone’s hair. Just because a performer loves making jokes or being the butt of the joke, it doesn’t mean it’s open season on touching them like they’re some toy. They aren’t a petting zoo, after all, but humans that also have feelings and emotions.

Entertainers still have their own personal spaces, and the fact that they’re public figures doesn’t change that these spaces shouldn’t be invaded. Most people aren’t okay with strangers touching their hair without asking—whether it’s a wig or their locks look so enticing to touch, it’s rude to do so without their permission.
