Déjà vu : PNP hit with another mañanita-esque accusation

‘Dinner, not a party’

It seems that the Philippine National Police (PNP) just can’t cut a break when it comes to their gatherings, as new socmed posts have surfaced accusing PNP Chief Archie Gamboa of ‘partying‘ at his Navy Base cottage in Baguio City.

The most viral of the accusations come from Baguio resident Clinton Balud, who shared screenshots of conversations saying the gathering even had a live band.

So I posted this morning a screenshot of a PM sent to me last night. Feeling nila ako ang kanilang boses dito sa Beygyow…

Gamboa was quick to dismiss the claims, as Baguio is currently on Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) and he was only there to have a meeting with Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong. He did not clarify if it was essential.

‘There is no truth to the allegations spreading on social media.’ Gamboa said.

‘For the record, there were only 3 vehicles, which is less than the PNP chief security protocol. All of us went through the triage as per the City of Baguio’s regulations.’

The DILG has since backed Gamboa’s claims, clarifying that the gathering was a ‘dinner‘ rather than a full-on party, or you know, manañita.

‘Wala pong katotohanan ang ganiyang paratang. Baguio is under the general community quarantine and gatherings are allowed with limited participants,’ explained DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya.

‘Sinunod po ng pamunuan ng PNP ang lahat ng pamantayan. It was not a party, it was dinner dun po sa cottage ng chief PNP sa Navy Base sa Baguio’

The PNP is no stranger to pvblic dinners, as National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) officer Debold Sinas infamously drew flak for hosting a birthday bash last May complete with freebie roses, alcoholic bottles, and 0 physical distancing. Sinas still remains in his post.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spox Harry Roque shared earlier today that the Palace was not made aware of the gathering.

‘Di ko po alam kung nagkaroon ng ganyan party… we will check with [PNP] General Gamboa kung nagkaroon ng party, we will ask for an explanation.’

Either way, no photos or hard evidence have surfaced of the dinner to deny or confirm the case.
