ICYDK, powerhouse actresses Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet are set to portrayal IRL suspected lovers Mary Anning and Charlotte Murchison in the highly-anticipated film ‘Ammonite‘.

The Francis Lee-helmed film just dropped its first trailer yesterday – and the sexual tension is so thick you could prob cut it with a knife.

We’re first introduced to loner paleontologist Anning (Winslet), who is tasked to ‘walk the shorelines’ with Charlotte (Ronan). According to Charlotte’s husband, she’s been suffering from ‘melancholia‘, and traveling with Anning would probably make her feel better.

After some initial resistance, we then see the pair slowly enjoying each other’s company with some exciting fossil-hunting, water-watching, and lingering stares before eventually leaning into a slow but delicate kiss.

Thankfully, the trailer doesn’t give off the rest of the film and we’re left to wonder what’s next for the couple.

Director Francis Lee initially received backlash for portraying Manning as a lesbian when her family claimed there was no evidence to support the claim. However, Lee said that the film isn’t exactly a biopic but a deep dive into WLW relationships of that era.

‘The idea of two women actually in a relationship together was just not a thought anybody ever had within society.’

‘After seeing queer history be routinely ‘straightened’ throughout culture, and given a historical figure where there is no evidence whatsoever of a heterosexual relationship, is it not permissible to view that person within another context?’
