National Museum just dropped a 9-gallery #MuseumFromHome virtual tour
After the National Museum of the Philippines and Planetarium temporarily shut down amidst the pandemic, there’s been an art-shaped hole in everyone’s heart.
Luckily, the National Museum of Fine Arts has rolled out the #MuseumFromHome series, a full-on 360-degree panoramic tour of 9 of its galleries in celebration of their 119th Foundation Day.
‘Despite the pandemic and still closed to the public, we want to make some of our exhibitions closer to you through our #MuseumFromHome program,’ their official Facebook post reads.
‘Here is one of our birthday treats for you: a 360 virtual tour of the National Museum of Fine Arts, featuring 9 galleries, which we know are some of your favorites.’
In cooperation with ‘Sulyap Museo: A Virtual Tour of Philippine Museums’, the panoramic tour first takes visitors outside the National Museum premises – an all-white sight we’ve missed since its closure back in March.
From there, visitors can choose between the 9 available halls and galleries:
- Spolarium Hall
- Old Senate Session Hall
- Gallery 3 – BSP Sacred Art
- Gallery 6- Luna and Hidalgo
- Gallery 8 – War Paintings
- Gallery 12 – Guillermo Tolentino
- Gallery 15 – E. Aguilar Cruz Hall
- Gallery 16 – PGH Hall
- Gallery 22 – IRRI Hall
Aside from taking a virtual look-through, viewers can also zoom in on selected art pieces and click on prompts to read information. Similar to the labels beside physical artworks, the info can contain everything from the description, creation date, and more fast facts.
Adding to that serene museum vibe, the Visayan love song Usahay performed by the University of the Philippines Manila Chorale also plays in the background throughout the tour.
The menu bar on the lower right of the screen holds customizable features to curate your virtual museum experience, such as turning off the screen’s auto-rotation, muting the music, entering fullscreen view, and more.
This wouldn’t be the first time that the National Museum has put up their attractions for the Internet to witness, as they posted a Facebook panoramic photo of the Old Senate Session Hall back in April.
