‘Peaky Blinders’ will conclude with a movie

Shortly after news dropped that ‘Peaky Blinders’ will conclude its run in its sixth season, series creator and writer Steven Knight has confirmed to Deadline that a planned movie will officially end the story of the Shelby crime family.

‘Covid changed our plans. But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen’.

Knight initially envisioned a seven-season run for the hit British drama, but production troubles caused by the pandemic forced an early conclusion. Per the BBC, the Oscar-nominated writer wanted the series to end during the first air raid sirens of 1939, which signaled the German Blitz of the UK and the early chapters of World War 2.

Previous reports of the ‘Peaky Blinders’ TV finale teased that the story would continue ‘in another form’ following Season 6, which could air late 2021 or early 2022. News of a film, and even a spinoff, isn’t surprising as the show has been a massive hit, both critically and commercially, since its debut in 2013.

It won a BAFTA award back in 2018 for Best Drama Series, while Season 5 broke the record for the show’s biggest premiere on UK television, raking in 3.7 million viewers.
