Underrated drops this week: Cup of Joe, Dom Guyot, Reese Lansangan
Welcome to ICYMI, We The Pvblic’s weekly spotlight on fresh, under-the-radar drops you might’ve missed.
Last week was pretty quiet in terms of music releases, hyped or otherwise, save for a Zild album drop. But as always, we’re also huge stans of things lowkey. For this week, we’ve got hidden gems courtesy of Cup of Joe, Dom Guyot, and Reese Lansangan.
Cup of Joe (Bukod-Tangi)
It’s probably fitting that this new offering from Cup of Joe is as upbeat and refreshing as the beverage they’re named after. Bukod-Tangi features a feel-good, hip-shaking mix of jazz and indie rock, made even better when you realize it’s about self-love and the beauty of being unique and different.
Dom Guyot (Haven)
Your first listen to ‘Haven’ might lead you to believe that it’s simply a smooth RnB track about the usual trappings of love.
Subsequent plays will tell you that it’s actually a portrayal of a gay man, who falls in love for the first time and sees his partner as a safe haven in an otherwise unsafe society. Cebuano artist Dom Guyot captures this personal experience with emphasis, including the line ‘So f*ck society / I know they disagree / But I don’t mind / I got you by my side’
Reese Lansangan (What Is This Feeling)
Call me crazy for calling Reese Lansangan ‘underrated’, but her music always felt like hidden gems that you keep close to your chest, but are otherwise hyped whenever a friend happens to discover them randomly.
With ‘What is This Feeling’, Reese recaptures the lighthearted feeling of being alive before we all locked ourselves in isolation. The MV looks as freeing as its message – a welcome dose of sanity for sure.
