An airline company sold out flights to see the supermoon this May

While multiple countries are still banning travel flights, it’s possible that flying to the moon is an exception. Following the Pink Supermoon last April, Australian residents will get the chance to see the next one up close because of an airline company’s flight deal.

Qantas Airways announced its sale of limited tickets to their supermoon scenic flight on May 12.  According to CNN, the tickets for the supermoon flight were priced at AUS $499  for an economy ticket (PHP 18,441), and business class was sold for $1,499 (PHP 55,398).

Three hours after the initial announcement, the airline company posted another tweet that the said tickets are already sold out.

Qantas is also working with astronomer Dr. Vanessa moss to plan the ideal flight path for its passengers to view the eclipse and supermoon. The so-called “flight to nowhere” is set to depart Sydney at 7:30 p.m. on May 26. It is also scheduled to do low fly-overs on the world-famous harbor and iconic Opera House.

Qantas’ Chief Customer Officer Stephanie Tully said in a statement, ‘We are very excited to now be doing a supermoon scenic flight and the 787 has the largest windows of any passenger aircraft so it’s ideal for moon gazing.’

She continued, ‘We think this flight has great appeal for anyone with a passion for astronomy, science, space photography, aviation or just keen to do something a little ‘out of this world.’’

Whether or not you’re catching a flight to see the celestial occurrence, the supermoon is free to watch in the sky on May 26, starting at 7:13 p.m. PHT.
