Toxic Filipinos made race insults against Miss U Canada. She took the high ground.

On today’s episode of Toxic Filipino Comments, Miss Universe Canada 2020 candidate Nova Stevens received numerous racist comments from Filipino pageant enthusiasts on one of her Instagram photos.

The 26-year-old African-Canadian posted two separate photos showing a screenshot of her image that received remarks from Filipinos regarding her skin color. She said, ‘With all that has been going on in the world ‘black lives matter ‘Asians are human’ you would think this would bring us together.

‘Instead, looks like some people are still stuck in their ignorant and racist ideologies. I’m really disappointed with some Pageant fans from certain countries,’ she continued. She even made a point by saying the world is evolving and beauty is not exclusive to a certain group of people. Hence, beauty applies to all shapes, shades, and sizes.

The anti-racism advocate ended things on a positive note on her next post, ‘To my Filipino fans: I’m sorry if my previous post caused you any harm. My post wasn’t intended to incite more hate; rather shed light on the toxicity that sometimes hails from fans (from all over the world).’

‘The last thing I want is for anyone to experience hate so please don’t bash or generalize the Filipino fans; not all are racist,’ she continued.

Given how sensitive we Filipinos are to criticism (remember when someone said our food wasn’t that good?), it’s ironic that we throw racist and derogatory remarks. It also doesn’t help that our current leaders aren’t exactly shining examples of proper morals and conduct.

However, not all hope is lost if we allow ourselves to be educated in this matter. We wouldn’t want to add to the constant cycle of discrimination and prejudice, right?
