Underrated bops you missed: Kean Cipriano, ASTER, Mei Tarce

Welcome to ICYMI, We The Pvblic’s weekly spotlight on fresh, under-the-radar drops you might’ve missed.

Another week, another list of awesome artists dropping solid tunes that deserve a bit more love. For this week, we have Kean Cipriano, ASTER, and Mei Tarce.

Kean Cipriano (Childlike – Album)

The OPM icon has been given the opportunity to stretch his wings with the release of his first solo album, Childlike. In our interview, Kean, even with his slew of hits as frontman of his band Callalily, considers the album the proudest achievement of his career.

‘I can finally say that I made something for myself’, he muses, adding that the change of pace in his career was a welcome one. ‘There were no compromises, no meddling of outside forces, this is my defining moment because this is me at my most satisfied.’

Kean’s choice to reinvent himself years into his run is reflected in Childlike, which offers various kinds of musical styles. ‘Make Me Fly’ is a standout for making us reminisce about the long countryside drives we miss.

ASTER (Destiny)

The trio of Andrew Bellosillo, David Estupigan and Calvin Hidalgo are out to make ‘feel-good’ music – a must-have nowadays, tbh – and Destiny puts them on the right track. The catchy love song embodies every hopeless romantic who’s on cloud-nine over someone. A staple for your next harana session, maybe?

Mei Tarce (Apoy)

Mei Tarce captures the feeling of romantic excitement, tension, and vulnerability whenever we feel ‘fired up’ – in a good way – over someone in Apoy. Much like the emotions that she tries to convey, the melody starts with a soft, ‘ooh-inducing’, twang of the guitar, which then cascades into a more intense finale.
