Fire bops you missed: Maris Racal, Chvkey, Bita and the Botflies
Welcome to ICYMI, We The Pvblic’s weekly spotlight on fresh, underrated drops you might’ve missed.
It’s been a while since we last did a ‘fire bops’ compilation, but we’re back with some fresh and solid tunes this week. For this run, we have Maris Racal, Chvkey, and Bita and the Botflies.
Maris Racal (Ate Sandali)
It’s hard to call someone ‘underrated’ and then refer to the meme queen herself, Maris Racal. But we’re mostly referring to Maris’ change of musical style as seen in ‘Ate Sandali’, a power-pop track that features a departure from her mellower and intimate sound.
Aside from the evergreen message of choosing not to be marupok for an ex, can we talk about her wardrobe changes in the MV? Her knack for outfit transitions has been previously teased in one of her many viral skits, but the MV just takes it to another (gorgeous) level.
Aboniki (Chvkey)
You ever had one of those moments where you’re just playing a song in the bg while you work – and your butt involuntarily grooves to the beat? That’s how we felt with ‘Aboniki’ by Chvkey.
A newcomer under OC Records, Chvkey uses feel-good beats, lyrics inspired by Afro Culture, and an Urban Afro-pop sound to create something unique but bop-worthy at the same time.
Bita and the Botflies (Guillotine Drops)
Bita and the Botflies have been on hiatus for so long, one of their fans theorized that their new single, Guillotine Drops, means they’ve just recovered their YouTube password.
Funny jabs aside, we can safely say that Bita and the crew have made a pretty solid comeback. The MV and the grungy vibe paints a haunting picture of the song’s message, which is about the tendency of women to be victim-blamed and demonized without proper context and evidence.
