Manila is apparently the 3rd most stressful city to live in

Manila has received recognition for many things like running for the most innovative COVID-19 response, or unfortunately, placing dolomite sand and coconut trees by the bay. This time, Manila is labeled as the third most stressful city in the world in a study conducted by VAAY, a German CBD company.

The study, The Least and Most Stressful Cities Index 2021, presented a list of 100 cities that were ranked according to how stressful they are to live in, with 1 being the least, and 100 being the most. Manila placed in the 98th spot.

VAAY considered four categories to determine the levels of stress: governance, environment, finance, and health. For the governmental factors, it counted the laws that impact a person’s mindset. The effect of the environment was assessed by the population, pollution, weather, and traffic in each city.

Financial stress was evaluated through unemployment rates and other monetary bases. Finally, the study looked at the ease of accessibility to healthcare. The data shows that if the score is higher, the city ranks better in the index. Manila got 29.4.

‘While we consider the significance of the daily pandemic news cycle, we can lose sight of the ever-present elements that surround us and impact our everyday lives,’ VAAY said on their website. ‘If we really are products of our environment, we wondered, why don’t we pay more attention to its influence on our state of mind?’

Following Manila at the bottom were Lagos (19.9) and Mumbai (1.00). On the other hand, the top three least stressful ones were Reykjavik (100), Bern (96.6), and Helsinki (95.0).
