OnlyFans says that it will ban sexually explicit content soon

From all the TikTok skits and memes that scattered on the internet, OnlyFans was known as a video-sharing site where creators can share adult photos and videos and charge subscribers for a fee. But the platform will prohibit its users from posting sexually explicit material starting October 1.

The decision followed after the pressure from the platform’s banking partners that manages financial transactions. However, BBC News had an investigation and discovered that the London-based site had documents labeled as “compliance manuals,” which allows moderators to warn creators before banning their accounts.

Child protection experts and moderation specialists saw this as OnlyFans’ move on tolerating accounts that posted illegal content. But the platform explained that those documents aren’t its “official guidance” and denies that it permits the violation of its terms and services, as well as “all relevant global safety standards and regulations.”

Still, creators on the platform will still be allowed to post nude content, given that they follow the site’s policies. Since some things remain unclear, OnlyFans said that it would be sharing more information in the coming days.

‘In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,’ said OnlyFans in a statement.

The platform claimed to have garnered around 130 million users and 2 million creators who collectively made $5 billion (approximately P252 billion).
