Twitter is asking feedback for its new Filter and Limit concept
Many social media apps carry out updates to ensure a safe and convenient experience for their users. One of which is Twitter as its designer Paula Barcante shared new concepts on how to filter and limit toxic replies on the platform. She also encourages other users their feedback on the idea.
On Saturday, Barcante posted a thread on her personal Twitter profile showing images that contain the potential look of the “Filter” and “Limit” control. If harmful or offensive replies are detected, you would see a notification asking them to turn on the controls to limit future unwelcome interactions.
Once the Filter control is on, harmful replies to your tweet wouldn’t appear to the user or anyone else. Only the person who sent the malicious reply will be able to see it. People who open your tweet would see a prompt reminding them to avoid obscene language.
We’re exploring new controls called “Filter” and “Limit” that could help you keep potentially harmful content — and people who might create that content — away from your replies. These are early ideas, so we'd love your feedback pic.twitter.com/nInOMQz7WK

If an account with a recent pattern of rule-breaking or potentially harmful behavior tried replying to your Tweet while you have Limit on, this is an example of what they would see. Being civil and respectful, even when disagreeing and debating, has its perks! pic.twitter.com/PhFBRh46mA

Barcante highlighted that since the controls would be automated, the feature may not be 100 percent accurate all the time. She added, ‘That’s why we’re also exploring the option to let you review any replies we’ve filtered and accounts we’ve limited to undo those actions.’
Apart from debating if pineapples on pizza are good, debates and disagreements are still allowed on the platform. Barcante’s tweet explained, ‘Filter and Limit would be all about empowering you to proactively prevent potentially harmful interactions and letting you control the tone of your conversations.’
Earlier this month, Twitter introduced Safety Mode for users to have healthier conversations. It restricts unwelcome interactions on the micro-blogging site. But this feature autoblocks spammy or abusive responses as compared to the Filter and Limit controls that would only show warnings.
