LizQuen was the OG choice for ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’
The local film industry has a knack for promoting movies with a “love team” or an onscreen romantic pair. While Hello, Love, Goodbye broke the usual tandem and brought Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards together, ABS-CBN Films managing director Olivia Lamasan revealed that there were two other artists initially in mind for the roles.
During Lamasan’s interview on Toni Talks, she shared how she conceptualized a few of the classic Filipino films that she worked on. When it came to Cathy Garcia-Molina’s film, she revealed that Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil were the OG duo to have landed the roles, but Liza was shooting for Darna back then.
‘Yung sa Hello, Love, Goodbye, originally LizQuen ‘yan eh,’ she said. ‘And then it became Kathryn [Bernardo] and DJ [Daniel Padilla]. And then ‘yon, Kathryn and Alden [Richards].’
Lamasan continued by narrating how she gathered the creatives behind the film and how they didn’t form the story immediately. But a sudden surge of creativity hit her, ‘Patayo na ako tapos bigland pak! What’s our next Milan? What’s our next Anak? What’s our next OFW story?’
Hello, Love, Goodbye follows the story of Joy (Kathryn), a domestic helper who met Ethan (Alden), a bartender. Both of them are two OFWs trying to make ends meet in Hong Kong. As they go through their daily struggles, they also find themselves falling in love. But things get complicated when they realize that have different plans for their future.
The 2019 film is the highest-grossing PH film of all time, with global ticket sales of over P880 million. It also recently landed major awards at the 36th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies last September 2021. The movie won Best Movie of the Year, Richards won Best Actor for playing the role of Ethan, and Garcia-Molia won Best Director.
