PH bet Kodie Macayan was crowned Mr. Gay World 2020

Filipino pageant fans have yet to explore different competitions that transcend the well-known shows such as Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, and the like. In case you missed it, Philippine delegate Kodie Macayan recently won Mr. Gay World 2020 on Sunday, October 17.

During the virtual finale, Kodie took the place of fellow PH representative Mr. Gay World 2019 Janjep Carlos, making him the third Filipino to obtain the title. The first-ever winner from the country was John Raspado in 2017.

Apart from taking home the crown, he also received special awards such as Best in Formal Wear, Best in National Costume, Personal Interview award, Social Media Presence award, and the Viewers Choice award.

Macayan expressed his appreciation to everyone who supported him. He said in a Facebook post, ‘It is not to achieve fame or influence that motivated me to win the crown, I am here because of my vision to build an inclusive world for the LGBTQ+ members, give us a better life by ending prejudice and hate towards us and break the walls that divide us from the rest of the world.’

Kobie explained in his post that through the MGW platform, he will raise awareness about the importance of practicing inclusivity in making this world a better place for the LGBTQIA+ community, along with the heterosexual people.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the competition was moved online and streamed on Mr. Gay World’s YouTube channel. It presented pre-recorded videos from every contestant and visuals from places in the host country South Africa. The finale was a culmination of the two weeks’ worth of challenges for nine aspirants worldwide.

Following the challenges, the top five delegates had a Q&A segment to determine the top three. Joining Kodie’s reign was Poland’s Marek Piekarczyk as the 1st runner-up and Mexico’s Vicente Miron Mexico as the 2nd runner-up.

Kobie also shared a message for the gay and queer kids on his post, ‘I hope that my journey inspires you to dream big and live the best life that you deserve when you grow up. You have nothing to hide because you were born to shine in your true colors.’
