This Fil-Am author’s book will be adapted into a comedy series
Whether you’re on the lookout for a new show or you happen to be a fan of the novel The Son Of Good Fortune, it will soon be turned into a comedy series. Variety reported that the Amazon adaptation will be developed by actor Riz Ahmed and director Lulu Wang. Author Lysley Tenorio will serve as consulting producer
Oscar-nominated star Ahmed has appeared in movies such as Rogue One, The Night Of, and Sound of Metal. Meanwhile, American filmmaker Wang is best known for writing and directing Posthumous and The Farewell starring Awkwafina.
The show will be based on the critically acclaimed book that follows an undocumented Filipino teenager residing in San Francisco. He juggles many things at the same time as he goes through a complicated relationship with his mother, falls in love for the first time, and figures out how to pay a large amount of debt.
The upcoming comedy series marks a partnership between Wang and Ahmed’s production companies named Local Time and Left Handed Films, respectively. They will also be joined by Andrew Lopez, a Filipino-Korean writer, director, actor, and stand-up comic, who is also set to executive produce the show.
The Son Of Good Fortune won the 2020 Institute for Immigration Research New American Voices Award upon its debut. It was also a finalist for the 2021 Joyce Carol Oates Prize. There is no additional information yet on when the series will premiere, but more details on the TV show and casting are said to be released soon.
