Public school students in PH now have access to Adobe software

There are many Filipino students who do their best to make it through online classes amid the ongoing pandemic. While some struggle to secure tools to hone their skills, the Department of Education (DepEd) has distributed annual Adobe Creative Cloud Licenses to public schools nationwide.

According to DepEd’s press release, the move aims to improve the digital literacy skills of learners and educators. The Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (OUA), through the Information and Communications Technology Service (ICTS), has collaborated with Adobe to acquire about 108,000 licenses and the Creative Nation Academy on sharing expertise on the use of these tools.

The creative licenses of Adobe Creative Cloud, a comprehensive collection of Adobe desktop software and mobile applications under one umbrella, have undergone a quick activation after distribution. It can be accessed through an Adobe Federated ID connected to a school’s email address. These were already made available by January 15, 2022.

Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del B. Pascua explained that DepEd is training learners to be “globally inclined” and nurturing them to use industry-standard software in order to land greater opportunities.

‘Anyone can be a content creator due to the simplification and adaptability of existing mobile devices where learning and design can blend as one,’ Pasua added.

Meanwhile, ICTS-Educational Technology Unit Head Mark Sy also emphasized that teaching the use of the different Adobe software is important since it opens doors to educators since they are the ones molding students’ skills.

‘If we do not provide them with these tools, we cannot have competitive graduates who will help the Philippines in [raising] global digital skills standards that contribute to nation-building,’ Sy explained.
