‘The Batman’ actor Paul Dano will write a ‘Riddler’ prequel comic

The Batman has been making waves of success since its global premiere. While all eyes are on Robert Pattinson, actor Paul Dano landed the role of Edward Nashton or Batman’s rival a.k.a. Riddler. And now, he’s set to write a comic book based on the villain’s origins called Riddler: Year One.

DC Comics announced Dano’s comic book writing debut on Twitter and paired it along with a first look photo that got fans excited. The teaser shows a pair of glasses placed upside down in a pile of scattered files, which has the title written on it. The post also revealed the comics will launch in stores in October.

According to Geek Culture, The Riddler: Year One comic will be a six-issue Black Label Bimonthly Limited series. It will also be drawn by European illustrator Stevan Subic, who will work on his first DC comics.

The comic will follow the story of how Edward Nashton started from being an ordinary person in Gotham City to become Batman’s nemesis, placing them on a collision course in the feature film. Dano’s portrayal of Riddler only had 15 minutes of screentime despite The Batman’s 3-hour runtime.

In the Matt Reeves-directed film, the Riddler is depicted as a terrifying serial killer compared to how he was typically presented as a campy character in the previous Batman comics. Riddler: Year One will give the character more room to explore a deeper side of him.
