‘The Kingmaker’ will get 5 local subtitles for Filipinos to choose from

If manually researching through credible sources isn’t your go-to option when fact-checking, then maybe watching documentaries could substitute it. Director Lauren Greenfield’s The Kingmaker, which is now free to stream on Vimeo, will soon be available in five local languages for it to be accessible to more Filipinos.

On March 24, Greenfield stated in a tweet that the documentary will be available in a Tagalog-dubbed version with subtitles in Tagalog, Bisaya, Ilocano, Bicol, and Hiligaynon. While there’s no specific date, she shared that it will be dropping sometime this week.

The Kingmaker is originally produced in English, with some scenes in Filipino. It also currently has English subtitles. But many online Filipino users applauded the filmmaker for taking an extra step with her initiative.

Released in 2019, The Kingmaker explores a deeper look into the controversial political life of former first lady Imelda Marcos and her family’s possible return to power in the Philippines. For those who want to know more about it, We The Pvblic shared the main takeaways from the documentary.

In a separate tweet, Greenfield reiterated her stand on why she created the Marcos-related documentary. She explained, ‘The Kingmaker is a continuation of 25+ years examining wealth/power’s impact on societies.’ She also mentioned her other films that similarly tackle the same theme like The Queen of Versailles, Bling Dynasty, Generational Wealth, and many more.
