Are Filipinos used to traffic? PH is stressful to drive in, study says

Almost a year ago, Manila was apparently ranked as the third most stressful city to live in. But recently, the Philippines was labeled as one of the particularly frustrating locations to drive in. According to a global study by Confused.com, a UK-based financial service comparison platform, the country landed at the 13th spot.

The list presented how maneuvering PH roads is better than in places like Italy, Malaysia, and Canada. But at the same time, the country is doing worse compared to Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, U.A.E. took the top spot and also scores quite high for fatal accidents per population.

There were 48 countries analyzed for the rankings, which were based on the following: quality of road infrastructure, number of speed cameras, number of fatal accidents, and the number of cars per kilometer of road. Each country was also given an overall score out of 100 to indicate which are the most stressful to drive in.

The list reveals that only the Philippines and China scored a 0 out of 100 when it comes to the usage of speed cameras. These devices are placed to “improve the overall experience of drivers, by keeping them safe.” While this helps drivers stick to the speed limit, it also adds to the pressure when driving.

The Philippines also landed the eighth spot in the top 10 countries with the worst quality roads. The study states how this factor plays a huge role in a driver’s enjoyment or stress levels. Even if the country’s government is working on the improvement of road infrastructure, it could possibly take decades to see it come to life.

On the other hand, the top three least stressful nations, Denmark, Japan, and Finland take the lead. Each country scored low for fatal accidents, with each of them having only under 4 accidents per 100,000 population.
